While out taking a drive on Sunday Hubby and I came across some vultures overhead with a murder of crows endlessly chasing them. Watching and listening to the crows you begin to see why the term murder seems appropriate. The vultures would fly one way and then the next and it was hard keeping up with them and I was trying to do this from the car window knowing if I got out the show would be over. I never did get a photo of the pesky cawing crows. They were way too fast.
They aren't the prettiest of the birds of prey and my photos aren't as sharp as I'd have liked; but I did enjoy watching them soar overhead and glide in the updrafts along the windy ridge.
Since this is Halloween week and vultures seem the perfect subject for celebrating it I took this last photo of the vulture barely in frame and included a little Halloween fun for you.
ha ha. i have vultures for my thursday post, too. :)
ReplyDeletei like your added 'spooky', too.
That last shot is just too fun; I can tell you were enjoying yourself....
ReplyDeleteWoW Spooky!
ReplyDeleteGreetings, RW & SK
Vultures are thick around here....they even come over the houses here in town. Low down a lot of times...I have no idea what they think they will find here.
ReplyDeleteVery cool, Carletta! Crows are quick!
ReplyDeleteThat wing span is so impressive. A very seasonal/spooky post. Hope you have a nice week.
ReplyDeletePerfect bird to show especially for Halloween!!!!! We saw some Turkey Vultures one year when we were in Arkansas... Got some good pictures of those 'ugly' things!!!!! ha
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy

ReplyDeleteNeat work with your photo and making it apropos for the season.
ReplyDeleteStunning! Vultures are amazingly beautiful in flight!
ReplyDeleteHI Carletta Great shots of the Vultures
ReplyDeleteMaybe they aren't beautiful in a classical sense, but they are certainly elegant. Nice captures and I enjoyed your description of the crows and vultures.
ReplyDeleteStill pretty darn good shots. I have been intrigued with birds in flight lately and still trying to get "THE" shot.
ReplyDeleteGood application of text with the last image for the holiday.
They even look evil! I don't believe I've ever seen a vulture, other than the ones with two legs and clothes on! lol
ReplyDeleteLove the last shot! :-)
Enjoy your week!
Great series for Halloween! Love your Spooky shot. :)
ReplyDeleteI love to watch the vultures...they make flying look effortless.
ReplyDeleteOooh, yeah perfect birds for the Halloween week!!! We see them soaring pretty often around here and if we're outside, I always try to move a little, just so they'll know....
ReplyDeleteGreat in-flight photos and it must have been very interesting to watch the crows harass the vultures.
ReplyDeleteCrows are hardly little angels to be giving a hard time to a vulture who after all only takes carrion? Nice work with the camera Carlette.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the bird in flight.
ReplyDeletePoor vultures, those crows can be a pain! Great series, Carletta!
ReplyDeleteLovely serie of flight-photos!
ReplyDeleteGreat in-flight shots!
ReplyDeleteThey're not pretty up close, but they are beautiful soaring in the sky.
ReplyDeleteThe vultures are a perfect spotting for this time of year.
ReplyDeletecool. Vultures are strange birds. I don´t seem to be able to figure out if I like them or not. :)
ReplyDeleteTurkey Vultures are relaly neat, my fav are the American Black Vultures ;)
ReplyDeleteYour post is lovely, especially for Halloween ;)
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Recently saw some turkey vultures roosting in the park but wasn't able to capture them in flight. Their wingspans turn them into something graceful--not what you see perched. And I had no idea that crows would harass them. Strength in numbers? And a Spooky Halloween to you! We're supposed to have very bad weather--talk of postponing goblin fun.
ReplyDeleteSpooooooooky indeed - nice idea with the last image. Happy Haloween
ReplyDeleteGreat choice for the scary season!
ReplyDeleteNice Halloween theme!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy vulture watching. They are experts at soaring.
Nice post!
This is a topic post, even if my reply is a little late! I liked the barn in the next post too.
