Around My Five Acre Woods Yesterday

Often times I can be sitting at my computer and hear the roar of a helicopter. By the time I hear it, it is pretty near and useless to try and get out the door and in the open. This time I grabbed the camera that was already sitting nearby and shot through the window. The red cross on the side identifies it as a medical military helicopter. The angle makes it look like it's close to that treetop. I can assure you it wasn't.
Yesterday on my way back from the post office I noticed the golden grasses behind this electric fence. This is the same field I posted about that was filled with yellow flowers in the fall (see here).
It may be hard to believe but just a mere four hours earlier my backyard had looked like this! We had a short snowstorm. At around 9:30 Wednesday morning the ground was covered and the snow fell in big soft fluffy flakes. It was lovely. Forty-five minutes later looking outside I wouldn't have known it had snowed at all if I hadn't witnessed it. Then later in the eveing around 4:00 it came again but not quite as much but disappeared just as quickly.
Some days my five acre woods yields some pleasant surprises. Here's hoping you find some lovely surprises in your day.

  1. I only want surprises today if they are as lovely as yours. I am flying today and I hate flying, so no bad surprises, please! Love those golden grasses!

  2. You sound like Winnie the Pooh and the five acre woods. :)

I hate when I click "here" and then forget to hit the back button and then have to start all over again....but to see those flowers....ahhhhh, it was well worth the frustration this time. Lady, you have a wonderful knack of getting close up shots that are out of this world. Those didn't even look like the same flowers when tiny and big. Amazing! Thanks for sharing.

  5. Lovely golden grasses behind the fence.
If only our snow would last 4 hours instead of 4 (or 5) months.

  6. It was doing the whole blizzard/sun/snow/sun/blizzard thing at our house yesterday - crazy! I also know what you mean about helicopters out of no where. We actually have a neighbor who is in charge of the Life Flight division at one of the local hospital so on occasion they fly into the golf course and put the big bird down to either pick her up or bring her home. Nice ride if you can get it (without needing it that is!)

  8. You have typical spring weather that changes rapidly. We have not had very much thawing and won't get much melting for a couple of weeks.

  11. Come to your area (or mine) --and stay a few hours... The weather will change!!!! Right????? Ha... My father-in-law always said that if you don't like Tennessee weather, just wait awhile and it will change!"

Great pictures --and I love the one of the helicopter.

  12. Beautiful Carletta, I love the last shot of the snowy field. We have quite a bit of air traffic over our backyard, it can be quite annoying sometimes.

  13. Carletta...I think the grasses are way more yellow this year than in the past...and so tall. You captured the wind blowing them so well. It is a scene I see so often. Loved seeing the contrast of the same field. That was a neat thing to post. Hope you have a nice weekend. It is almost here...woo-hoo! genie
