Friday's Fences: A Cardinal on the Garden Gate

As I was posting this I realized I posted a similar image a few weeks ago. I have not been out much at all for quite a few weeks other than those 'have to make' trips. The cold with gray skies overhead isn't appealing to me and not conducive to taking good photos. That leaves me with my own backyard and my feathered visitors. Much time has been spent trying to take their portraits. This handsome fella was more than willing to pose and since he choose the garden gate he gets his fifteen minutes of fame this week as a guest spot on Friday's Fences.
We had snow flurries off and on all day today with tomorrow looking like more of the same. With temperatures hovering about five degrees above freezing between now and the middle of next week and a chance of rain or snow each day I'm pretty sure a date out with my camera won't be coming anytime soon.
Janis, I hope you are enjoying your winter getaway!

  8. A great shot. Nice and sharp and a narrow depth of field. You don't need to go far to take great shots.

  11. Marvelous! I have been getting regular cardinal visitors in my backyard, but they don't sit and pose like this for me. I love the look and the fence.

  17. Very accommodating. We see many cardinals but they don't light long enoung for me to fiddle with the zoom to get this quality of closeup. He sure looks great on this fence.

Know what you mean about getting out. I love winter but tend to be a hermit.

  19. It's a beauty Carletta, photo and the cardinal. I love the iron gate, it contrasts beautifully with the red.

  20. Oh that is such a delightful image, the bright red against the weathered white fence. Both are wonderful. I certainly can't blame you for not wandering with your temps. Stay warm, spring will come.

  25. This is a marvelous portrait of Mr. Cardinal. We're having the same kind of weather, so I know exactly how you feel. Hopefully we'll see some blue skies by next week.

  26. Cozying up in the house during that weather sounds perfect to me! And post all the cardinals you want...I just about never see them in real life and I love them. The one today is posing beautifully.

  29. I had to add...yes, when I read your comment about America's Stonehange, I had this post ready to put up and I knew it was the same show. We've seen every episode since it first aired about two months ago. I was so jealous you got to go to America's Stonehenge! I would love to visit a lot of the places he has on the show. I've been reading about some of them for so many years, and now I feel like I've lost my chance...too far away from most, and now retired and o n a limited income making travel harder. BUT the crosses being here in Tucson was SO exciting to me! I have something important I can actually go see! :-) I think they will let you see them if you make a reservation, so yep, I'll be checking them out! :-) Plus, I want to drive to the site where they were found. So glad we have this common interest!

  31. All my bird photos are from my yard this year. I love this shot with the white gate framing this handsome guy.

  32. Oh, what a beautiful guy! We don't get cardinals in the Pacific Northwest, so they're a welcome and somewhat "exotic" bird to see. (We haven't had snow this year but the grey, cold, yuck days are a challenge to photography, aren't they?) Visiting from Weekly Top Shot.

  34. You can never have too many cardinal shots! Love this one on the ornate fence.

  35. This is a gorgeous capture; not only because of the bright red bird, but also because the white iron fence is a little distressed. Thanks for making me smile this morning!
