We have Blue Jays here in late spring and summer. They disappear in winter --although I've seen them around in the Glade.. They just don't stay near our house... Bet they go near the water...???
I thought you said all your crows were black - Jays are a type of crow and this splendid fellow is certainly not black.
I found a field guide to the Crows (and jays!) of the world in a second-hand book shop last week (and now of course its on my book shelf!) - and there are a lot of crows which are not just black.

I love Jays! You have really captured this one nicely. I like his expressions. We have Stellar Jays here and Gray Jays, but no 'Blue Jays' like this. I remember this type from my childhood in New England. I really love their calls. xx
This is one beautiful specimen of a blue jay. They used to bomb our heads in Palm Beach when I was a little girl. I was scared to death of them. Now, I would be thrilled to see one in the yard. These pictures are wonderful.genie

Stewart: Yes, related species, but the birds we call crows are all black, including legs and bill and noisy. :)

How do you capture birds so well?? I was trying to get a cardinal yesterday. They would only sit still for a half a second. Beautiful photo's!

Wonderful images! We have a jay in the yard who has learned to imitate a hawk cry. It clears the bird feeders and all the stuff is his for awhile.
