Watery Wednesday II: The Ohio River

I promised Tricia I'd join her for her new meme this week if I had to shoot my own yard pond. As it turned out Hubby and I ventured over to Marietta, Ohio a couple of days ago and as we were crossing the bridge I thought I'd try to capture some watery shots. I was shooting into the sun from a moving vehicle while Hubby drove so they are what they are.
This first shot is looking at the town of Marietta from the Interstate 77 bridge across the Ohio River.
A few of you may remember my Sternwheeler Race shots from a few weeks ago. (Click here.) This is where they took place. The Ohio is much wider but it is split here. The left side of the picture is the Ohio bank of the river. The trees you see on the left are part of the island that splits the river here at Marietta.

This is a shot I took in September of the Sternwheel Races under the bridge.

Zooming in to the center of the bridge that joins Marietta, Ohio and Williamstown, West Virginia. The right side of the picture is the trees of the island and the left side is the West Virginia bank of the Ohio. If I had planned these shots I would tried to get the island. Looking under the bridge toward the back left you can see the top of a small tug boat. That is where the Muskingum River flows into the Ohio. The Muskingum River is a tributary of the Ohio River, approximately 111 miles (179 km) long, in southeastern Ohio in the United States. An important commercial route in the 19th century, it flows generally southward through the eastern hill country of Ohio. Via the Ohio, it is part of the Mississippi River watershed. The Muskingum is navigable for much of its length through a series of locks and dams.

One last attempted shot as we came to the end of the Interstate bridge.

This shot I took last September as we left the Sternwheel festival and is looking up the river away from Marietta. In the very back of the shot you will see the Interstate bridge I took today's shots from.

It's what's behind this week's Friday's Fences. As we rode over the bridge I was snapping shots up river one after the other to try and capture the sternwheelers. When I downloaded my shots the out of focus fence showed up. There is a walkway across the bridge and this fence runs the length of it. If you stare closely at the middle of the fence you can tell where these two boats are. I do like the pattern of the fence and the abstract look of the photo.
