Wild Bird Wednesday

Now that the leaves are covering the trees it is getting harder to spot the many feathered friends that visit my yard. Today I am sharing some of the sights I witnessed before the trees and vines were dreseed all in green. Above is a pair of mourning doves sitting on the bare wisteria branches. It was actually a cold day with a few snow flurries the beginning of March.
At the end of March the oak tree buds weren't much cover for this sweet little Bluebird.
The oak tree is now lush with green leaves. When the new leaves were just unfurling in late April it was easy to spot this Blue Jay with the warm spring sun on his head.
Regardless of leaf cover the bright red cardinal is always pretty easy to see. Here he even stood out against the colorful wisteria.
When not trying to scare all the other birds from the suet feeder the blue jay would often perch in the nearby wisteria vine. The wisteria is now just lush green leaves forming a shady canopy over my deck.
I've had it easy capturing the birds with my camera these past few months but I now need to get out and about in search of their favorite summer hiding places.

Hi Carletta, all great photos and the wisteria makes a super backdrop for the Blue Jay. Know what you mean about not being able to have as many photo ops once the leaves have appeared. Chances are rare but oh how I love those bird calls. Wish I knew which one was which. I know a few but I could do with some lessons.

Beautiful photos of your backyard feathered visitors. Especially that magnificent Cardinal. Lucky you, here, all these sized birds are gone. And you know why! Bloody Indian Mynahs!
Be forever vigilant and if you spot one, contact your government agency immediately. The Indian Mynahs are "FOREIGN" to the USA!
They were FOREIGN to Australia, until some clown introduced them in the 1800's to get rid of some insect pest!
Great blog - I am green with envy.
Cheers

Great group of birds, Carletta. We have all of the same ones in our yard. I haven't taken any photos since we got home. Need to start doing that...

Have a great day.
Hugs,
Betsy

What a great set of pictures! Most of our native trees never lose all of their leaves - so it can often be a challenge!

I think the look on my pigeons face is due to the fact that he may have just noticed a human sitting about 3 meters away from him!

Lovely collection of birds, Carletta. It is harder to see the birds now. There's something to be said for bare branches.

Just amazing shots!! I love the pop of bird colors against the trees and background. Cardinals are probably my fave and yours is a true beauty. Thanks for your WBW!!

The cardinal in the wisteria is so lovely -- definitely needs to be a postcard or greeting card, I think! :)

Awesome collection of yard birds Carletta! I'll have to agree with most that the Northern Cardinal in the wisteria is super but the pair of Mourning Doves at the top are magnificent!
