Last Monday my hubby stopped as far to the right of the road as he could for me take this pic. A couple pulled up beside us an asked if we needed any help. My husband said, "No, she's just taking pictures of barns." The woman smiled; the man said "oh" but he politely left off the "jeeze" and drove away. 
Hubby didn't rush me and pulled down a little further for this less obstructed view.
Along the same road we were traveling was this beauty nestled back away from the road.
Luckily I had my zoom lens so this is a closeup shot. Remember to click on any of the pictures and click through the slideshow of larger images. I like the two lightning rods on top.
Hmmm....doesn't this pattern look familiar! It is why I was excited to find this particular barn quilt. When I first walked into hubby's dorm room at college this quilt was on his bunk bed. It was made by his Mom . She didn't make quilts for show she made them to use. This one has been well used and well loved. We still have it. As an added note, on my own dorm room bed was the quilt my Grandmother had made me when I was very young. Seems like we both took a little love from home when we went to college.

ReplyDeleteFab barn pictures, but oh those quilts are so very beautiful! I can imagine the long hours that would go into making something with so many tiny pieces- an heirloom in deed. I like the idea of a quilt to use!

Your hubby is a good guy for stopping for pictures. Mine does the same. I really like the quilt squares and I like the addition of the actual quilt too.

Wow Carletta, the photos you come up with! Quilt barns????? Or "motif" barns? The first two photos of barn #1 looks like that barn is still in use. The second barn, kept so clean, well maybe I am not too sure. (And I did do the zooming in bit!)

That would be interesting for historical purposes.
We certainly to my knowledge have no barns, here called sheds, like you have in the USA.

ReplyDeleteWow! Never heard of quilt barns. I will occasionally see some around here with what we call German Hex signs or Pennsylvania Dutch signs. Never seen a quilt sign.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby is trained to pull over for photo opts as well. So nice to have a co-operative guy without having to ask.

ReplyDeleteThose are two gorgeous barns. I've got one of those special husbands too, and I am surprised we don't have more people stop to ask if we need help. I'll bet your guy rolled his eyes as he pulled away. I love your guilt connection to the second barn, and I think your romance was meant to be. You not only took a little love from home when you went to collage, you took a lot of love home from college with you.

I have several that my g'ma made for me & one that my great aunt made for my daughter just before she was born... not too long after, she passed away (my great aunt, not my daughter) & I still have it safe & sound! It's beautiful & I love & treasure it!!! =)

Check out Grandma Barb's This and That and you will see something very similar in her post! :-) These white barns are just so stunning, and they show off the quilt designs so beautifully! How amazing that your hubby had a quilt that looks just like the Grandmother's Flower Garden design on the second barn! And how neat you both had quilts made by your Moms when you went away to college.
