Highway Wildlife

Hubby and I were traveling down the interstate on the way to my Mom's house when he quickly started putting on the breaks and pulled over to the shoulder. I had been looking out my passenger side window so I had no idea what had possessed this behavior. I turned to him and asked what he was doing. He said it's a hawk. I always see many as we're driving along and depending on where we are he tries to stop for me so I can at least attempt to get a good shot of one.
On this day he saw the above guy on a wire crossing the interstate and started stopping. I was sure once I opened my door the hawk would fly. Surprisingly he didn't and I got two or three shots. This isn't an exceptional image by any means but it is a record of what we saw that day thanks to Hubby's quick response.

  1. Wow!! It IS a good shot when you enlarge it! I have them come into my back yard but have, yet, to get a good shot of one!

  5. I think this is a wonderful picture of the hawk, and I'm glad he cooperated and stayed so you could get the capture. I'm also glad your husband had such a good eye and quick reaction.

  6. Awesome photo. I have never seen a hawk just hanging out on a tree. Many buzzards, but no hawk.

  9. I think it's a very good shot. Birds can be so elusive and difficult to capture in a setting I like, or they have a strange pose. You did very well thanks to hubby for stopping!

  11. I think this is a beautiful shot Carletta. Usually they take off before I can get focused. That's a very observant hubby you have.

  12. Oh that is a big hawk, and certainly the stance is so authoritative. Your husband is so sweet.

  13. At least you got something to remember the day by....and it is a much better shot than I normally get of hawks.

  15. This is what I do, too! Pull over. When my hubby drives I am hard-pressed to get him to pull over in time.
    Love the photos.
    Cheers from Cottage Country!

P.S. I love barns, too! What fun.
