Another favorite was the Smoothie. The Smoothie has a center of peanut butter and is coated with butterscotch.
Inside each package of Mallo Cups and Smoothies is a cardboard piece of play money.
Each piece of play money is worth points ranging from five to fifty. Even today you can collect the points and redeem them for prizes or a rebate. Consumers have continued to save points for over 73 years and over 51/2% of play money is redeemed nationwide. The largest amount of play money redeemed by a single person was in 2006 when a gentleman from Uniontown, Ohio mailed in enough coin cards to receive a $353.00 check. He had collected over 176,000 points. Think about how much candy he ate! Better yet think about how much money he might have spent buying the candy bars.
I have twelve cards in front of me with a total of 175 points. On average I've probably spent twelve dollars obtaining those points. If I continue buying the candy at a dollar each and hope for the same point values I will on the average spend $36 per 500 points. In order to get a check for $353.00 I could very well spend over $12,000!!!!!
The Boyer site doesn't mention cash anymore; but for 500 points you can get a $1.00 rebate. Frankly, I'm waiting for a candy sale at my local store!!!!!
However, as a kid growing up I collected the cards and begged them from friends and by the end of the school year I had the 500 points to send and redeem. Back then your 500 points got you a whole box of candy. Somehow, that seemed worth it!

I have never heard of any of that candy or that money How cool is that to be able to save money like that a get real money. But I like you would go for the candy and I'm not a sweet eater.
Oh that last photo is tantalizing.
This is so interesting. I have seen Mallo Cups but I don't think I ever had one. I don't think I ever saw or had a Smoothie before. And the play money...what a great idea on Boyer's part. I can see kids spending the real stuff to get the play stuff. :) And the treat of course.
I think I am actually going to look for one of these and if I see one I am going to buy it, just for fun. :)
Loved this post.
PS. I just looked Boyer up and they are located in PA...same as me. Funny I don't see more of them. I see Hershey's and Nestle's all the time, but not Boyer.
I remember that candy (showing my age I guess :) ). When I was a kid anything that was sweet was good. I'm a little more picky now. :)
I've never heard of or seen this candy before but oh my, it does look delicious!
What a fun idea. Love the last shot. Made my mouth water!!!
the last photo belongs in a gourmet magazine
and I want the candy
I remmeber Mallo cups but not the other and not the play money
I never heard of either of them, but I sure am craving some chocolate right now. Yum!
It's always nice to think you're getting something for nothing, though of course you're not :-)
I hadn't heard of either of these candies before, but they both sound delicious. I like the sound of that creamy center.
I've seen the candy but have never tasted it. I just might have to next time I come across one! Never knew about the point cards, though!
mmm, the last photo ....mmmmm!
That sounds delicious! And the last picture is divine...
Ummm....this post needed a warning not to read right before dinner time. ;>) I don't recognize either of those candy brands and since I ate (more than) my share of candy as a kid, I'm thinking these were not sold out west.
Looks yummy!!
But I'm more a Hershey's kisses kinda girl!! :)
PS-
Carletta, check out my Yard Art post of this week! Funny!!
