Hubs and I found this river museum the same day we found the McDonald's billboard I posted a couple of weeks back. Above is a mural on the outside of the museum depicting an old sternwheel steamer.
The pilothouse of a boat rests on the roof. (I didn't see the plane flying overhead until after I downloaded the photos.)

Oh makes me think of the time my family took a river boat cruise up the Mississippi for my folks 50th Wedding anniversary. So much fun to see that big red paddle wheel slapping through the water. Thanks for bringing that to mind today.

ReplyDeleteBTW the Thai restaurant has excellent food, the place is also very beautiful and in summer you can eat outside in the garden. And it is very cheap a lunch for 7 € ! and you have the choice between 6 plates !

The paddlewheel steamers plied the great river system often - from Pittsburgh to New Orleans, the great river highways, Ohio an Mississippi, opened the south from the north - and memories and history are preserved so well in your post and the museum...

ReplyDeleteWhat a great museum! The first thing that came to mind when I saw the paddlewheel was Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. The last time I saw a paddlewheel was at Disney World (and that was a great day!) Wonderful captures, Carletta.

ReplyDeleteCarletta, this is the best! So much wonderful RED from this museum. Did I ever tell you I want to go down the Mississippi in a river boat? I got the idea from Mary Morris's book "River Queen." She came to our book and author luncheon and she told us all about it. I think you'd love the book! :)
