Watery Wednesday:
Deep Dark Water Reflections


Traveling a rural road there was an overhanging rock formation to the right and a deep body of black water on the left of the road.
Look where the water has stained the trees black.

Edited: In reading comments I wanted to explain that the water you see is black. The green is the reflection of the leaves of the trees overhanging the water. This water is like a pond and does not flow. The water is black from the tannins leaching into the water from the decaying leaves that fall in the water and build up leaving the water black. It was quite eerie really; but I thought quite lovely as well.

    That's my kind of road! Love the rock formations. I pass similar outcroppings when I drive up to Boone and they still amaze me with how they seem to defy gravity. The reflections on the water are beautiful.

    Wonderful shots. I really like the formation of that rock ledge. And I've never seen or heard about black water before. Amazing!

    Love the rock formation. Makes you wonder what it looked like many years ago.
    Yes, I can see the boulder, but I wouldn't have if you hadn't pointed it out.
    It amazes me how trees grow in water like that. You would think the water would wash the dirt from the roots causing it to fall.

    I LOVE that outcropping on the right! That is AWESOME! The black water forest reminds me of our Cyprus Swamp when it actually has water in it. I do see your boulder. They are lovely pictures!

    I love that rock outcropping! What a neat little road :) I sure hope in the summer that boulder is visible so no one decides to dive in that water!
