Camera Critters Sunday

Camera Critters is hosted by Misty of Misty's Musings. On the weekend we post photos of our favorite critters. Make sure to click on the icon to go and check out all the other participants taking part this weekend. You never know what kind of critter you're going to find!

There's A Turkey In My Yard
(enlarge for a more detailed view)
This is the most recent turkey visitor to my yard. 'Jake' has been coming by recently with the hens and eating the bird seed that falls out of the bird feeder. From watching them in my yard this spring I don't think he's quite a year old yet. Check out his beard hanging there in the front. It will get longer as he matures. In the meantime we'll fatten him up with bird seed and maybe a little corn!
On this particular day Jake ate in the company of Thumper the squirrel and her friend under the oak tree. They all love the seed from the bird feeder hanging just above their heads but out of sight.

We have turkeys in the neighbourhood but not in our yard. Are they as stupid as legend has it?

Later are we going to see a photo of Jake dressed for dinner at your Thanksgiving table?

So nice that they all hang out together like that. I've never seen a wild turkey up close. So many wonderful creatures in the world.

Love the squirrel sitting there just hanging out. Yes, I got your comment (I have it set to email me so I don't miss any). Dunno why the comment box won't appear. Blogger has not been behaving lately. Can't wait to migrate to my own hosted space!

So... you gonna fatten up that turkey for a specific reason? ;D

Beautiful shots! He would be even more beautiful if he was sitting on my dinner plate at Thanksgiving. :)

The only turkeys I ever see are frozen in the grocery store.

I played too :)

One of my friends used to tell me that if wild turkeys cross your path it's good luck...so if they're hanging out in your yard - that must be the best luck of all.

It seems to be a week for turkeys. Aren't many in this area, but once in a while a person can catch sight of one.
