Wild Birds Come To Call

Today's bird photos aren't crisp and clear portraits by any means; but they serve to record the wild bird happenings in my yard this week. Often we see and hear the squawking Canada Geese flying overhead to one or the other of the surroundings ponds of our neighbors. This past Thursday morning I was sitting in front of my sunroom window and saw this pair waddling down beside my row of Rose of Sharon bushes.

I was hoping they would take a break but they kept walking. After taking this photo I had to retreat to the living room windows to catch a glimpse of them.

I was barely able to get this shot through a very dirty six paned window. They just kept walking in almost a straight line along my property. I believe them to be a pair. The one in front kept watch while the other one nibbled here and there. I was glad for their visit. On the bright side - green grass is peeking through.

This Northern Flicker has made a habit since fall of being just on the outskirts of a good portrait session.  As I watched the geese I saw him in the yard and watched him fly up in this hickory tree. Again he was a little too far and six paned dirty windows are not conducive to bird photography; but - I finally have proof he is here!!!!

Geese are so funny, real characters. I remember when I was a child and they only migrated through this area. Now there are gaggles of them everywhere, year 'round.
I love Flickers and Woodpeckers.

Oh, maybe the geese are looking for a nesting sight! I'd love to see a Flicker!

Since this is a pair they are probably casing out your yard as a nest site.

They're coming! I've heard from my friends back home that there are lots of new birds everyday! Enjoy!

I always enjoy seeing the geese even if they're quite messy and noisy too.

Great to have the geese visit your yard even though for a short time. Great too, to finally get a photo of the Flicker. I wonder if it will stay around for the summer.

Lovely there the geese dropped in on you and I think the flicker shot is great.

Not every picture need to be guide-book perfect to be worthwhile and these are a good example of this!

I like them.

They're still fun to watch as they move along. Love the northern flicker, so cute!

I see Canada Geese fly over almost daily, but they don't ever stop in my yard. What a stately pair.

Beautiful geese, but we are inundated with them here. We live on a golf course and have to be very careful not to bother them or they will come at you hissing, flapping, and looking very scary. They "rule the roost". Have a nice weekend. Mickie :)

Seems like your Geese were on a mission. The ducks have really been in our yard this spring, more so then ever before. Nice shot of the Northern Flicker.

Thank you Carletta for letting me know about the weird Google link at my comment. I like to visit people from comments too, so I hate that mine doesn't work right any more. I am not sure what Google has done to me. It used to work.

Sallie (FullTime-Life) said...

OK ... please forgive all these comments about comments -- maybe you can just delete these two. I didn't know how to figure out what was wrong without doing this. What I think now is that I must have made the first comment (the one with the bad link) from my IPAD and it isn't set up to link to my proper Google Page. These two seem to work as I am working from the desk computer. I'll have to figure out how to fix IPAD.

Thanks again -- and sorry for all this.

Nice to have such visitors to your yard, and great to see signs of spring!

What a nice surprise, geese for visitors. We usually have a few flickers migrating through in the spring time. That's the only time I see them.

It's wonderful to see wild birds in the yard that one doesn't see every day. The gambrel quail are visiting us, and soon there will be little ones with them, and I have already had one unsuccessful attempt to get photos (they are VERY skittish!) but plan to keep trying.
