Wild Turkey

We have wild turkeys that roam the woods around us and we often catch glimpses of them year round. This hen was right under my sunroom window a couple of weeks ago.  There is a bird feeder just out of sight to the left. I usually take a couple of photos and back away leaving them to find what seeds they can. There were two hens that day but I haven't seen them since. That doesn't mean they haven't been around - just that I haven't seen them. Turkey season begins next week so I'd be just as happy if they stay hidden. :)

  2. She's so pretty. Love her markings and colors. My dad and I kept hearing a turkey hen while we were fishing, but never saw her.

  5. I really love these funny old things. I too I hope yours (and the ones we have around here) stay hidden during the coming hunting season.

  6. Nice picture Carletta. I almost used the word "shot" there but thought better of it. No wonder the Wild Turkeys are so shy.

  7. Your key phrase is I haven't seen them not to say that they haven't been around. With feeders , I wonder how many little surprises there are.

  13. I would love to see a few turkeys roaming around my area, but I never do, because I live in Montreal. :) I do, however, see a couple here and there in nature parks, and I love them!

  18. Turkeys up my way seem to be getting bolder and bolder, though hunting season may turn them into shy birds again.

  20. As elusive as they can be, they sometimes show up in our son's yard in Texas.
