These were taken at my daughter's home when we visited a few weeks ago. My hubby had helped our granddaughters, Lily and Lucy, plant them in the spring. They love their big flowers!
Well out with my trusty "google" again. The things you learn from people's informative blogs. A native flower for the Americans, exported to overseas countries after European settlement. Here they are now pretty prolific in the wild, but they are now harvested for sunflower oil in many parts of Australia, and are pretty profitable, as they are so hardy. State flower of Kansas,USA, where I did see it growing on farms for harvesting and the national flower of the Ukraine!!!! A most interesting blog, as always, Carletta. Keep up the good work, Carletta, nothing like learning something new, and I never expected to learn what I have just read on "Sunflowers". Cheers Colin (Brisbane.Australia) Weather report: Brilliant, but some rain would be most welcome before summer arrives.
They are lovely Carletta and even more special because of their beginnings, some treasured time between grandparents and grandchildren and the reward is a beautiful flower and a great memory. Thanks so much for sharing with Today's Flowers.
Sunflowers are always such happy flowers! This is a wonderful thing for the kids too - teaching them about growing things is very important! Special moments...
For the very first time we have many sunflowers this year. And I did not even plant them it's the birds who planted them. They are so beautiful I do not like to cut them for my blue vases. ^_^

Lovely sunflower images! I'm sure your granddaughters were excited to watch their sunflowers grow.
The flowers look great with the sun coming through the petals from behind. I bet grandpa had fun helping his girls to plant them.
