Despite The Nibblers The Crops Are In

Last week if you visited here for Rural Thursday I showed how our garden was growing and explained we had a chain link fence around it to keep out the little nibblers who come to visit. This little buck is one of those nibblers. He visited a couple of times this week.

As with many other areas it has been very hot and humid and I caught this little guy on Tuesday grabbing a drink of water. He was thirsty enough that he didn't care if he had to drink the bird's bath water.

As you can see it tasted awfully good to him!!!

Since last week when I showed you the cucumber plants and blooms we have had enough to be able to give each of our neighbors a small bag full. The photo above shows what we picked yesterday for us and hubby took just as many to one neighbor. We'll be making refrigerator pickles today.

And, it is finally time for that blackberry cobbler!  Hubby picked these yesterday evening as well. This bowl holds enough to make a small cobbler which will be plenty for the two of us and the best thing is that there are many more berries to get ripe!

On Monday we decided to try and find someplace open where we could get something to eat and be cool.  The late evening sky held a wonderful surprise in the form of this sundog. I really liked the swirling clouds as well. For those who saw and read my last post about the devastating storms in our area I am happy to update that late yesterday afternoon after five days without it our power was restored. Many thanks to the crews from Detroit Edison out of Michigan who worked through the holiday to make that happen!
