As with many other areas it has been very hot and humid and I caught this little guy on Tuesday grabbing a drink of water. He was thirsty enough that he didn't care if he had to drink the bird's bath water.
As you can see it tasted awfully good to him!!!
Since last week when I showed you the cucumber plants and blooms we have had enough to be able to give each of our neighbors a small bag full. The photo above shows what we picked yesterday for us and hubby took just as many to one neighbor. We'll be making refrigerator pickles today. And, it is finally time for that blackberry cobbler! Hubby picked these yesterday evening as well. This bowl holds enough to make a small cobbler which will be plenty for the two of us and the best thing is that there are many more berries to get ripe!
On Monday we decided to try and find someplace open where we could get something to eat and be cool. The late evening sky held a wonderful surprise in the form of this sundog. I really liked the swirling clouds as well. For those who saw and read my last post about the devastating storms in our area I am happy to update that late yesterday afternoon after five days without it our power was restored. Many thanks to the crews from Detroit Edison out of Michigan who worked through the holiday to make that happen!

The deer at the birdbath is priceless. And licking his watery lips! Wish I could be your neighbor, I love cucumbers.
A deer in the garden - it seems to enjoy themselves. Have you already blackberry now? Wishing you a good day :) Hanne Bente
The birdbath makes a perfect drinking fountain... he doesn't have to strain to get down at all... lol!
Hi
Great to see and read that you are back on line again. And according to my reckonings on your 4th July!!
Good old "Uncle Sam" to the rescue, eh?
So much for my ideas of you experiencing an early settlers life after the Declaration of Independence - ha ha! I have a funny idea that I know which experience you wanted - ha ha!
The US revellers here yesterday night seemed to have survived the big clash of dates as I reported on other blogs. All had great fun, but I bet it was chaos of the highest order and sore heads this morning.
Great photo of the young buck.
Cheers

Weather report: 5.30pm Thursday,
5th. Getting really cold. I will be sleeping in tomorrow morning.
I am SO glad you have your power back! Incredible how much we depend on it, isn't it? That photo of the deer after lapping the water is amazing! And the cucumbers - yum! Wish I loved close enough! Great post today - glad you can get your life back to normal! Also, I didn't know what that sky phenomenon was called - thanks for that great shot!
Five days without power is a long, long time. It sure make your appreciate electricity when the power goes back on, doesn't it? The berries look scrumptious!
So glad you got your power back!!!
Those "cukes" look Yum-O!
Beautiful shot of the sky too!!!
And the Cobbler sounds super!!
yummy fresh veggies & fruit. we see deer in our backyard all the time. they are not afraid of much. ha. ha!! (:
Yesterday, after getting out in the heat to take a walk, we were feeling bad for all of those without power in this weather. I'm glad yours is back home. Blackberry cobbler is one of my favorites. Will be stopping by for a virtual bite. ;) Very nice series of photos.
Yay on getting power restored! That deer looks very content at your bird bath!
Beautiful photos! Loved my visit here!
So glad you have your power back ~ Love the deer photos ~ wow to have them so close ~ and your cucumber and berry harvest is 'mouthwaterting'! thanks, ^_^ (A Creative Harbor)
What a beautiful visitor to your birdbath! The cukes and berries look good. We have some good-looking tomatoes coming along, but none ripe yet. Without power for five days! We were out for two days and I could hardly stand it.
Beautiful photos I am so happy you have power now. B
so glad you have power again! it has been such a rough patch for so many folks in the US. your deer visitor is beautiful! and cobbler sounds yummy!
1st of all, a GREAT BIG CONGRATULATIONS on getting your power turned back on, that has to be a huge load off your shoulders!
The deer pics are awesome, love the tongue licking shot, too cute... & the cucumbers look delicious!
I love the shot of the blackberries, great background bokeh!
Hi Carletta, Glad you have your power back on... Hope you didn't lose much in your frig/freezer...
With this hot and dry weather, our deer have also been nibbling. Even though we put out Deer Scram and spray Liquid Fence on the flowers, the deer have still been nibbling... They are pretty desperate right now I think...
Hugs,
Betsy
The Deer are so very beautiful. I do capture a few bu not that close.
Lovely blog . I came from Nancys. RT
oh you must have started early with those cucs! Mine are just starting to bloom now!
ha, from the thumb nail i thought those blackberries were pine cones! that deer is too cute, glad he found a cool drink!
Great deer shots!! I tried the wild blueberries when I was out hiking, so I know those blackberries will be great. Too bad you're not closer so I could borrow a cup of cobbler. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
First, I want to say I'm so happy you have your power back. To be honest, I was a bit pre-occupied thinking about my blog friends without a/c in this heat.
Neat to see the little buck come so near your home to get a drink -- poor thing! And I'm impressed with your garden harvest -- well done!
Thank you for sharing at Rural Thursdays this week. xo
I, too, am so glad you have your power back!! Things have been a mess in your part of the world, Carletta! Glad you're safe! Of course I absolutely love the deer! And what wonderful captures!! The cucumbers and blackberries look delicious and all of that and some gorgeous skies , too! Wonderful! Have a great weekend -- hopefully, storm free!

Wonderful series and fantastic sky!
What a captivating creature and well done for being alert enough to snap him. I too initially thought the blackberries were pine cones - weird the tricks one's eyes play!! Thanks for sharing and happy weekend. Sorry to hear about your power outage but glad to know it's functioning once again.
Delightful shots of the deer and fresh produce and I'll take a serving of that cobbler please. Lovely sky shot too!
I love the tongue he is showing hehehe. Love the berries!
Have a happy weekend and happy sky watching!

I'm glad the nibblers didn't get to your crops. They've pretty much decimated our some of roses and day lilies. The blackberry cobbler sounds delicious.
Great post when you can cover three topics in one post. I am very happy that you finally got your power back.
Love the sundog capture and your cute deer. The berry cobbler sounds yummy. Carletta, have a great weekend and happy skywatching!

Oh, my--I did not know you had went without power for so long! Sarah was without power for a little bit over a day...going to have to go back through and see what I have missed.
Your little nibbler is so cute!
So glad you're back in business with power. I know how devastating and forlorn that can feel.
Love those photos of the deer. They are picture perfect!
The bird bath looks like it was specially made for a deer saucer -- great photos. Your crops are way far ahead of the ones on my daughter's 5-acres.
