Barn Charm: Old and Weathered

While trying to find our way to the round barn I posted last week Hubs and I found this old weathered barn along the almost one lane we were on. I was literally sitting in the Jeep when I took this shot. It sat right beside the road and didn't look like it was being used for any kind of livestock. A house sat back to the left just out of the frame of my camera. There is new green plastic fencing around the little chicken coop behind the barn but I didn't notice any chickens.
The past two days winter has returned to our little part of the world. Temperatures are dropping tonight that will bring us thirty degrees lower than a few days ago. We even have snow flurries in the forecast - shudder, shudder!!!
The cold days left me wanting to stay in so I had time to play with my photos. The above photo has two layers of texture added and I played around with blending modes and opacity of the layers.
A couple of days ago Tricia posted an infrared image of an old ghostly house on her blog. I had converted my original photo to black and white but didn't really like it so I tried the infrared edit and the above is that result. I'm really liking this one. Many thanks Tricia for the inspiration!
For the purists of you who want to see the out of camera shot here is the original!

Great photo Carletta.
Seems that the barn is no longer in use? Pity you didn't photograph the homestead, as we call them here. I would love for you, one day, to be able to show the interiors of these old barns. Just ask the people living in the house/homestead, they can only say yes or no??? If they said "no", I would be making a very quick retreat. ha ha. Moonshine whisky???
or all other various, not so well looked on stuff, by the authorities? Curiousity would get me, and hopefully not a bum load of "Buck shot" - ouch!
Very interesting all these old barns in WV! Great blog.
Cheers

Weather report:
"Pea soup" fog early this morning. Lifted and good and sunny. Now 12.30pm it is clouding over!!!! Never a dull moment in Brisbane with the weather!

My favourite is SOOC too!
It's fun to add textures etc, I've recently loaded Cameraawesome to my iPhone and it has good textures and frames.
Love your barn series!

I always like to see what can be done with textures and things, but I am a purist for the most part...I love the original one. I do have to admit that the infrared one is pretty interesting...

I like how you played with the photos, Carletta, (and so keep doing it) but in this case I like the original best.

And my favorite one is the last. I like how the wood is weathered in different colors. This gal was a beauty in her day, wasn't she?

I really like both edits, but the original old weathered wood just grabs my heart!

What a great old barn. I love your "treatment" on the first photo, but the original is still my favorite. Nice work! Mickie ;)

Your original shot is fantastic, Carletta! No need to change that at all, but I do like what you did with the other two versions. Really nice!

I really love these old barns Carletta, and always wonder what kinds of animals used to call it their home.

When I see old barns and are not in use I wonder what is inside. For sure there are many stuff there that's been there for years. An old photograph perhaps or an old diary telling her unrequited love? Oh my I would be tickle to death if I found one ^_^
About my barns, I think I took those shots either Texas or Arkansas. ^_^ Thanks for the visit I do appreciate it.

Beautiful! Love the infrared... that barn is awesome, love the dark weathered wood & the cupola... reminds me of Devil's Barn west of here in Shannon County that I've photographed & posted several times.

I'm usually the one being inspired by others, I'm not used to being the one doing the inspiring, so thank you!

Thanks so much for joining =)

looks like you played around with water colors and a paint brush.

Guess I must be a purist. I do like the last shot best.

What character this old place has. Wish I could sit inside and lesson for the stories it could tell.

I like seeing the textures but I want to see the barn unaffected for looking at the barn so I can see the textured photos as art, KWIM?

I love the way the more and less weathered parts of the wood fade into each other. The ghostly barn is quite cool! :)

Thanks for stopping by The Chronicles of Nani today!

Acccckkkkkkkkk! Before I even knew the bottom one was the original I was going to tell you I liked it best and I am a texture addict! But I do have a serious crush on that first one with the textures :) Carletta they are all three cool charming barns. Love them!

Great barn. It reminds me of one nearby me.

I like all the shots, but I'm generally a purist liking shots 'as is'. :-)

The infrared makes it look like a glass plate negative.
