Mrs. Cardinal sat in the budding wisteria vines surveying the west side of the feeding area for dinner. When suddenly she spotted a chunk of suet just below where she perched. Before her featherd friends could sneak in and claim the bounty she flew to the ground.
Back on the east side of the feeding area her hubby Red was perched in a budding oak tree wondering where oh where the Mrs. had flown off too. He was getting hungry and hadn't she promised to find a lovely place for dinner. Where oh where could she be?

I was working in the backyard today and watched Daddy Bluebird going back and forth to the nestbox. Mama was inside sitting on the eggs -and he was feeding her... Isn't that special??????

Thank you. Another lesson on your magnificent Cardinals ( the feathered variety!). I never knew that the hen cardinal was White!
One would think that with a white hen and a male red, the offspring might be speckled???? Or am I being too ambitious with my bird theories?

I am so partial to cardinals...they are out state bird here in Virginia, and we have a pair of them in our yard, often at the feeders. Once we had 3 pair of them...this year only one pair so far. Beautiful photos!
I really like your photos of Mrs. Cardinal -- she's very beautiful. I am a little disappointed, though, that she didn't share her suet with Mr. Cardinal.

I love these beautiful female cardinals. So many people overlook them and opt for their showy mates, but when their feathers are this golden color I call them Betty Whites (Golden Girls)!
