Wild Bird Wednesday: Doves In Motion

Three little doves perched on the feeder......

According to the Internet site All About Birds, the Mourning Dove is a graceful, slender-tailed, small-headed dove that’s common across the continent. Mourning Doves perch on telephone wires and forage for seeds on the ground. Hmmm....maybe I should have a talk with the ones that live in my backyard. It makes no difference how much seed we leave on the ground this is how we see them more often.
One flew away then there were two.

Last Monday I sat watching them fly up and down from the feeder. I decided to see if I could get any in flight. For new readers please know I shoot through my double paned sunroom window so sharpness is an issue. Once I saw in my viewfinder I had caught this one in flight I kept shooting. The following images were some of my better captures.

Making a left turn for a landing.

Coming in for a landing.

If I'm angelic looking enough maybe they won't mind my company.
Suspended in air....

  2. Lovely!! That one really does look like an angel landing. Too bad that they like the feeder better! We used to have quite a crop of sunflowers growing from spilled seeds under our bird feeders (in Oregon)...I always wanted ground feeders, but they were rare.

(BTW, I really appreciate your comments too!)

  3. Great pictures of the doves, Carletta... I had a Mourning Dove at my feeders this week. I seldom get them in flight though. You did great with that.
