This was the scene from my sunroom window looking out into my backyard last Wednesday. We have had a herd of turkeys visiting regularly for about three weeks and for some reason usually on Wednesday. The hens come in and eat the fallen seed from the bird feeder. They are literally right outside my window. This is the closest old Tom has come. He doesn't come under the feeder. He just struts around hoping to be attractive I guess.There is a total of eight turkeys in our little herd. This old guy and his six ladies and a younger jake (male). We were lucky last summer to have baby turkeys visit our yard. I hope this is a sign that the same will happen this year.
In this shot you can see one of the hens behind Tom. So far I don't think he has won the heart of any of the ladies. :)For more Ruby Tuesday join Mary here.
I had no idea that turkeys just wandered like this! And these photos certainly show the amazing detail of their patterned feathers! Lovely shots!

ReplyDeleteI don't know if I told you but my grandparents years ago had a male pheasant and a female come to their yard for years. My GM named them Phil and his girlfriend. It was a wonderful site. Unfortunately one year they just never returned. It was sad for all of us especially my GM :)

ReplyDeleteNeat that they come so close. I would love to see the babies. I can sit on my porch and hear them, but trees are between them and me.

Ain't they bit noisy at times? I have fear of Turkeys coz they tend to follow you around and bite :D But lovely creatures...

ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, Carletta. That big male turkey has alot of women in his group.... I have heard that male turkeys will take any or all females who will 'do the deed' with him... SO---I'm sure you'll have some babies around soon!!!!! ha ha

That's too funny that they're on a schedule! Wednesday is gathering day at Carletta's huh? Great pictures. I would love to have them in our yard. Not gonna' happen here but there could be a chance back in Oregon.
