I've been practicing my photography skills this week and had been trying to accomplish some soft focus shots of some roses. I was trying to do that in camera and not post processing. The practicing will continue. Above are two shots that seemed more out of focus than soft focus and I didn't fully like the result. I used my software to add texture to them and I am quite pleased with how they came out. I'll use these to make homemade greeting cards.

What a grand idea to use these on handmade greeting cards! I think they would suit most occasions.
ReplyDeleteYou need to start your own greeting card company my friend and/or send them to Better Homes and Gardens. These are just picture perfect. I love them. I would love to see them the way you tried with your camera to see what you are talking about with the texture. Rookie I know LOL :) Have a wonderful Monday :)

My problem is always wanting to have too much in a picture. Less for sure is more.

ReplyDeleteI find red flowers in particular the hardest to shoot - it's so easy (at least for me) to end up with all the highlights blown and no definition at all.

Beautiful photos of the rose. I think using them on homemade greeting cards is a great idea.

If anything, the slightly out of focus view allows the shape and texture of the rose to stand out more. On film, I used a K1000, all manual SLR, and mere exposure and focus changes often changed the mood of the same subject. Someday for us, a digital SLR. Your experimentation is beautiful!
