Last week Mary suggested we might post books for Ruby Tuesday this week. My Mom and I have collected old books for a long time. There is just something about them that makes you want to hold them and peruse the pages. Above are three that have a little bit of red in them. It's not a bright ruby red but rather a deep rich tone of almost burgandy. The one aspect that draws me to old books is often the graphics stamped into the bound covers as the one on top above. This book was copyrighted in 1885 and has the name of a young twelve year old girl inside. The green book with the American flag stamped on it has Mr. James H. Rhodes and O
ctober 10, 1917 written inside. The all red book is The Cloister and the Hearth, part one. It's a tale of the Middle Ages written before 1859. I've tried to capture the stamped feathers on the top left hand side of the cover.Of course I have to include Ms. Lily with one of her new books she got for Christmas. Yes, it featured Elmo!

ReplyDeleteI would probably be one of the last people on earth to buy a Kindle Reader! I love the feel and smell of books. There's something about holding a book, and turning the pages that just makes me happy. It's not the same reading a book on a computer. I'm sorry, it's NOT.

I like the light flag and the title 'THE COMMUNITY and THE CITIZEN'. Such a book ought to be read by all, in 1917 and 2010.
ReplyDeleteBut for a gem of a ruby, Lily really likes that red Elmo. The bright rouge of this Muppet stands out, and even captures the eye of grownups, too...
Love your old and new books. I have collected a few oldies that have my ancestors' names in them. I always read to my babies every night.

ReplyDeleteThe books are great, I have a few old ones as well. There is just something so special about them. Lily is really getting into the Elmo book.
ReplyDeleteSo much more character in those than in a Kindle, though a Kindle would certainly be easier on an asthmatic chest.

Beautiful books! I have not read Twilight either. We bought 2 (well actually 3) copies of the book so Tara and I could read together, and neither of us finished. The 3rd copy I gave to my hairstylist in FL, she did read it!

I admit I also have bought books for sake of their good look. Beauties from the art noveau period are hard to let go of.
