A Bench In The Forest

I found this bench along the path to the overlook for the waterfall that I posted on my photoblog yesterday. (You can see the waterfall here.) I visited the waterfall many times with my family when I was a young girl and hadn't seen it in many years. The sepia tone helps suggest an earlier time and seems fitting for my memories.
I wanted to post the original image as well because I thought it was such a peaceful looking spot with the sunlight coming through the forest behind it and the soft light dappled on the fallen leaves. I might add that since it was only about 50 feet from the precipice of the gorge I could hear the roar of the waterfall enticing me to continue rather than to sit.
Besides Sepia Scenes I'm also posting this for RunE at his Visual Norway blog. He posts a bench shot on Friday. It's all very informal at his place. Just post your photo and leave him a comment.

  3. Sounds like a wonderful place to just sit and enjoy the water. We used to go to Blackwater Falls when I was a kid, and we always loved it there.

I like the Sepia and color photos together. It's kind of a then-and-now feeling.

  6. Such a serene scene, Carletta.

I like it better in sepia, can't really say why though. Maybe it symbolized the memories you have.

  7. The waterfall setting reminds me of Kent Falls State Park in Connecticut. Last time I was there I didn't have a camera. :-(

  8. The solitary bench looks nice in the sepia woods. But not lonely, as the hikers and lovers of nature sometime need a place to sit and slow down, taking in the stunning Mountaineer scenery. A wonderful capture!

  10. A beautiful, fresh outdoor scene.
Sepia is also good for making the fall real and crisp. I can hear the rattling of fallen leaves while stealinig over to take a rest on this well built bench.

  19. the sepia does take you back in time. I'm sure this area hasn't changed much in the last 50 or so years. thanks for stopping by.

  20. I liked that you posted both versions. They may look the same - but they are not. For the autumn experience I'll go for the second one - for the historical version I'll go for the first.

PS Thank you for the mention!

  22. Very peaceful setting. I love park benches. I have a whole slew of photos of them. What I need to do is make a separate folder of them since they are scattered all over in folders (on the computer) from our travels! LOL!
