It was a cold wintry day a week ago Sunday when I returned home from getting the newspaper. The sun was up there in the sky sending down rays to earth wanting desperately to pop through the clouds.

For a few moments it did; but it looked more like a nighttime moon!
(enlarge for detail)
Just the night before the moon itself was but a sliver in the sky.
Great views Carletta
ReplyDeleteI saw just the same moon view... I was stood at the back door a few days ago and looked up at the night sky, a single plane was passing over head very high up.. just the flashing tail and wing light could be made out. I then noticed the moon and did wonder if any other Sky Watchers would be doing to... it might not of been at the same time or day... but the thoughts nice anyway..
All the very best to you and yours.... I'm going to go and check out your other blog now.
Tom
Three great shots!
ReplyDeleteI like your dark and stormy skies! :) I love the sky at any time!
ReplyDeleteJunie
Awesome stuff, Carletta! Lovely shots, love your crespuscular rays and your crescent moon. I noticed that moon this past cycle, and couldn't get motivated enough to set up the tripod.
ReplyDeleteThe weather is so tumultuous this time of year. We want the sun. It wants to come, but winter wants a last blast! Love the moon shot.
ReplyDeleteSuch a poetic comparison between our two big "sky lights"
ReplyDeleteAwesome captures Carletta, the first one is my favourite of the bunch.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteJust great, the sun and the moon is the most importent in our universe, without it??? br...
ReplyDeleteNice weekend from Anne in Norway.
These are indeed eerie. I really enjoyed the perspective and dark nuances. Are you sure they were not taken at Halloween? Did you see the crescent moon and Venus last Friday? They were about a degree or two apart.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos...love the first one with the rays and such a dramatic sky...
ReplyDeletehow nice; the sun did look like the moon.
ReplyDeletehave a good weekend.
Great pictures Carletta.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and just love the moon one
ReplyDeleteI think the sun trying to shine through the clouds makes an interesting picture, Carletta. And I like your moon shot very much!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful how the light breaks through the clouds : a delight.
ReplyDeleteLove your dramatic cloudy skies resolved in the gentle sickle of the moon.
ReplyDeleteI love these shots. The sun really does look like the moon and the sliver of a moon is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteGreat view and sky! And the moon is followed by Venus! It must be the same night I took photos of it!
ReplyDeleteCarletta, these shots are awesome!
ReplyDeleteGood photos Carletta, I like the moon photo the best.
ReplyDeleteThe first two - dramatic and cool. The last one is peaceful and pretty :)

Lovely shots. I like it when the sun looks like the moon.... and the moon shot is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteVery dramatic, love the last one with the little star.
ReplyDeleteLove these shots, well done!
ReplyDeleteThe moon at its daintiest. That is my favorite, though they are all spectacular captures.

Lovely set of photos, Carletta. I like the first photo. I love to see the rays against the clouds. I wish you a summer sky soon. :)
ReplyDeleteI played too this week!
Happy Weeke-end!
I paused in my backyard staring up at the sliver of moon and wondered if I was the last person awake to view it. Our neighborhood certainly was dark and quiet. I should have been snug in my bed, but that nasty blowing wind sent me scurrying out to check my peppers and tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteThe skies look threatening, but at the same time beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI missed the moon one which is a meavellous catch and the light breaking those clouds is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCarletta: Those were some neat captures of the moody or (moony) skies.
ReplyDeleteThree great pictures. I seldom go out at night as it's too cold. So thanks for letting me see the moon.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful sun and moon shots. And to think on the moon the sun is shining in a completely black sky!
ReplyDeleteLovely shots Carletta...
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, and a much more appealing sky than mine today, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness Carletta, I've seen so many skies just like this around here lately. They make for some gorgeous pictures! Great job!
