Photographic Reflections
This window and balcony are part of a pre-Civil War plantation house here in Parkersburg. It was built in 1836 and always occupied by the same family. Not only is the mansion intact, the contents of the home are all there too. Everything has been saved, from letters, shopping lists, and business accounts to furniture, wallpaper, antique light bulbs, clothing, and shoes. More than 200 years of family papers were collected and have been saved.Curtains made in the mid-1800s by the ladies of the house still hang in some of the windows. Henderson Hall as the house is called is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
I love how the old glass in the windows make the reflections look like they are underwater.

ReplyDeleteArn't crabs red after you cook them? One of my favorite foods, but you guy looks a little giggly to me. Have you ever looked out of windows like these? Our house in OK has some like that . Made me dizzy, like one to many bruskies.

ReplyDeleteThe plantation red brick is a richer more elegant red than on most buildings. The arched windows and the nicely detailed balcony really add style to this plantation house.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic post!! I also like the face of the crab, haha. I love the photo and story of the mansion. It's so unusual and so wonderful that the same family is still living in the home so many years/generations later, and that they've saved all the paperwork, and kept it all 'original' rather than remodeling it to todays standards of glass and such. How I would love to go see it in person. Oh, and by the way, the red bricks work with Ruby Tuesday too.
