There's a very interesting story behind the man who started putting up those trios of crosses around Virginia and West Virginia and then later in other states. I interviewed him for a newspaper article back in the 1980s. I seem to recall the Washington Post magazine also doing a large feature. He died a few years ago, but I believe others have taken up the cause.
